Sunday October 9th
Sunday October 9th saw early starts for James Payne, Joe Sibley, George Newitt, Jack Crawford and Fred Smith as they set off from Leicestershire for their Inter County fixture, first match 11.00 in Norfolk.
The first fixture was against the home side of Norfolk and the day got off to a good start with wins for James, George and Jack, giving us a (3,2) match win over the locals. The second match was against a strong Essex team, Leicestershire only managed to pick up two points against them; James had a match point in the fourth game but eventually lost (2,3). The last match of the day was against local rivals Northamptonshire, so the competition was fierce. The outcome would decide second and third place on the day. With wins by George and Fred, and valiant losses from James and Jack it all rested on the shoulders of Joe to bring it home for Leicestershire. He realised the seriousness of the situation and stepped it up in the third and fourth game to win (3,1) which gave Leicestershire a second place finish on the day.
Well done to all players and thanks to Colin Crawford and Mark Newitt for being the equivalent of the Team Bus.
