Leicestershire GO GOLD funded squash player Lily Taylor followed in the footsteps of her U17 counterpart George Parker in making this season the one where she takes her first national title, beating Alison Thomson (Surrey) 3-0 in the final of the English Junior Open. The event took
place at Wimbledon Racquets & Fitness Club on Sunday 3rd March, and seeded number two, Lily always looked like she would be in contention at the back end of the weekend. However when favourite Lucy Beecroft (Northumbria) was dumped out by 5/8 seed Alison Thomson in the semi-finals, Lily knew this was her best shot at taking her first ever national title.
Having dropped just two games in her three matches en-route to the final, it was clear that Lily was in excellent form and really meant business; this really showed in the end as she ran out a convincing winner, taking the final 11-7, 11-6, 11-5 in a mere 26 minutes. Next up for Lily is the European Team Championships on May 16th -18th where she will be representing England – I’m sure you will join us in wishing her well.
